YouTube gets ready to dabble into streaming music

youtubeYouTube’s music streaming service is on its way, and the site is making preparations to penalize record labels that haven’t agreed to its terms.

“Our goal is to continue making YouTube an amazing music experience, both as a global platform for fans and artists to connect, and as a revenue source for the music industry,” a YouTube spokesperson wrote. “We’re adding subscription-based features for music on YouTube with this in mind — to bring our music partners new revenue streams in addition to the hundreds of millions of dollars YouTube already generates for them each year. We are excited that hundreds of major and independent labels are already partnering with us.”

YouTube is already the most popular music streaming platform, but isn’t organized the way iTunes, Spotify, iHeartRadio or Pandora are.  YouTube is aiming to change that and share in the millions of dollars of subscriptions that Spotify, iHeartRadio & Pandora currently enjoy.
